Confederate History Month???

searching

As a future HIstory/Social Studies teacher I try to take time every week if not every day to read the news, discuss politics read up on history not covered in the select classes I can take a semester.  And the following articles caught my eye as I was view the news via google's news feed.  I'm planning on "transplanting" myself to a different state to teach for multiple reasons....one of them being i'm tired of living in the mid-west and want to experience a bit different but still in the United States.  After all...these articles are about certain people wanting to celebrate their history....whether they should push for such a public/formal/government sponsored form is in question.  I'm not sure who is right or who is wrong...I do know that both sides can rais up valid points.

What really got me thinking is the comments to the second article posted below.  Is there are way we as Americans and citizens of the world discuss history (and the darker parts of it) without hostility towards each other?  It seems like it's not very possible.  These articles raise so many feelings and discussion topics....from Liberalism and Conservatives, Is the Federal government (more importantly the executive branch) getting to much control?), Socialism, etc...

I know both articles articles are from the Washington Post....they were just the first that caught my eye...i'm off to see if anyone else provides a different view.

Man...it's going ot be hard to focus on my Sociology Paper now.....going to from new and politics to talking about how people chose people they want to be in relationships with....yikes.

Hope everyone has a spectacular rest of their day/evening!

Cheers!

You hype yourslef up all week (and weekend for that matter) for an amazing game...and then the team you are rooting for plays like shit.  Agh.  I only have to get through this week and then I'm going to drown my sorrows in a couple of glasses of fine alcohol...along with good friends and fun times to forget all the depressing-ness.  Oh....and a message to the ESPN announcers....get a new man crush...Brett Favre is married and wants nothing to do with you so quite talking about him non-stop.  'nuf said....over and out....

Ugh....homework sucks when one has no motivation to do any of it....even if it is a 1200 word paper on the geographical term "sense of place."  Any one have an idea of a picture that resembles the essence of the United Sates and then another picture for our good neighbors to the north (Canada)?  Hmmmm....Why can't I concentrate....all I can think of and want to do is read is some of my fave fanfiction stories....ugh.  I'm done complaining now....

Writer's Block: I Love Lucy

rome

I Love Lucy premiered today in 1951, and has been on the air ever since. Although Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s marriage didn’t last off the air, Lucy and Ricky are one of the great couples in television history. Who is your favorite TV couple?

Well...When I saw this on my homepage I needed to write about this. My name is Lucy so this couple and T.V. show seems to follow me everywhere I go and everyone I meet. When I introduce myself to either a group or a single person someone always responds with "Luuuuccy I'm home!" Even though I've heard it about 1,000 times, it still makes me smile. I collect Lucille Ball and "I Love Lucy" calendars, dolls, books, DVDs, etc. They decorate a pretty big shelf in my room at home.

The "I love Lucy" show and her shows after that always bring a smile to a gloomy day. Lucy's fight to get onto Ricky's show never got old. Lucille Ball was a beautiful woman and a very funny comedian. and Dezi was a good looking guy with a nice voice lol....he too was responsible for tons of laughs.

Lucy and Dezi thanks for so many laughs and memories...I hope I laugh as much as your live audiences laughed during your shows as well as yourselves.

Hey there All!

School is out for the summer! And I'm soo happy at that fact! My summer plans have changed though unfortunately. The drum and bugle corps I was going to march with decided to not march a show this summer, due to financial reasons. With all the traveling planned and expenses that goes along with running a corps they decided to save up over the summer so next year can be more successful. The organization though is working hard at finding spots for members who still want to march. Which is awesome! I'm not going to march though. Too many other opportunities are available for me. I'm grateful for all the memories I've had and the people that I have met. I hope to catch a couple of shows this summer still to see all of my would be members march. Madison was a big part in deciding whether or not to march. I have family that live there, so housing was free (just do some house-sitting while i was there and some chores). Plus CapSound was as part-time corps, which would have allowed me to hold a part time job. I'm college student who needs money, I have to work at least some. So now my summer plans are quite open.

I called the camp that I worked at last summer and they guy in charge said he was going to try and work something out. They have still some staff openings. Not all of them gear towards my strengths but we'll see what happens.

Hope things are going well for all of you! God Bless you on this holiday weekend! Enjoy the Monday off if you have it, and I hope the weather is good and full of sunshine!

I'm hating life write now...

rome
It's April...and the weather is resembeling winter. It's half way between raining and snowing right now, creating a wonderful slush. Oh, and It's waaaayyy windy. I forgot about a couple of things for one of my classes. I haven't been getting enough sleep lately...and just all around quite depressed. I'm begining to hate this whole month! I also am falling below my average grades in my classes...i'm normally a pretty solid B student and have fallen to C's...I know not that big of a deal...but it is if you need to maintain a 3.0 g.p.a. and I only have 34 more days to work to get my grades up...

On the Plus side...

I have do have only 34 days left until I take my last final (even though there is ton of work to be done by then)! I recieved my initial study abroad acceptance letter today! So, as soon as I decide on what kind of loan to take out to pay for this wonderfull 5 month adventure, and do the school work to keep my grades up...I'll be attending the University of Winchester in Winchester, England for the Spring Semester of 2009. I'm super exctied but already feeling nervous. My university has accepted me but now Winchester has to approve my application as soon as I fill it out and send it to them! I'm gonna be spending a lot of money but everyone tells me it's worth it and I can't wait to experience a new country/culture and be introduced to a different perspective of the world especially the united states. Ah...what fun!

Well...I feel better now...thanks for letting me rant and rave for a bit...I'm gonna go catch up on some sleep unless something on the internet steals my attention.....LJ, IJ, youtube=little devils lol

Writer's Block: The Things We Carry

rome

What do you always carry with you?

View 504 Answers

Well I'm working late again...and was going throught he archive's or the writer's block thing and decided to answer this one...just for a little update.

These past months I've always seem to have:

1) my school I.D: Cause my life revolved around it. It's at my meal plan account on it...with out I can't eat. It's how I get into the dorms late at night...etc...you just need to carry it with you at all times while on campus..

2) my winter hat: It's still pretty cold up here and I pretty much always have it on. It's a knitted white hat...and keeps my head nice and toasty...it's wonderful!

3) my keys: Never know when i'm gonna be able to check my mail or have to go to my car.

4) my phone!!!!: I can't live with out this. I call home way to much! walking to class with out it is almost unbearable...it's just too quiet!

I think that's about it...I have about 2 and half hours left of my shift...I get done around 6:00a.m. then it's off to bed for a few more hours. Things have been quiet which is good. Spring break was a much enjoyed and needed break from school. Just hung around home and slept, scrapbooked and read.

My birhtday was wonderful. I just celebrated with family and close family friends. I don't feel that much older...It's just kinda weird not having "teen" as a part of my age anymore. But it feels good to be 20. I'm also turning in my study abroad application tomorrow. My interview went good so hopefully in about a month I will receive a letter letting me know i'll be traveling to England next spring! Can't wait to see the country, experience new things and learn from a different point of view!

About sums it up...gonna go now...and try to find something else to fill the last 2 1/2 hours of my shift. ugh!!!
